Matside Week 4--"Epic Matches" Part II: Didn't See THAT Coming!
A finish that no one predicted.
This week's installment of "Matside" takes us back again to watch one of college wrestling's most well-known and exciting matches.
This one happened during the NCAA finals in 1993. Gerry Abas of Fresno State was the overwhelming favorite coming into the match. Not only was he a 4x NCAA finalist and a senior, but he was wrestling an unknown freshman from Iowa named Licoln McLravy. McLlravy had just been inserted into the Iowa lineup about a month prior after sitting the bench, and came out of nowhere to make the finals.
Abas comes out guns-a-blazin in the first period, but that begins to change pretty soon, and McLlravy provides fans with a last second finish to remember.
