MISSION VIEJO, CA — A home renovation crew involved in demolition at a Mission Viejo residence made a startling discovery this week, Orange County Sheriff's Department reported. Two demolition workers at the dilapidated home discovered a crematory urn Thursday, spokeswoman Jamiee Blashaw told Patch.

Justin of the Parmely Demolition Company was in the process of demolishing a part of the building when he found a black bock with an urn tucked inside.

The Omega Society Crematory had prepared the remains in 2014, according to the tag. OCSD Mission Viejo photo
A tag read that the container held the ashes of a woman who passed away in 2014.

"If it were my mother, I would hope someone would treat her ashes with the same respect," Justin told the authorities.

The deputies took the cremains and researched where the family of the deceased woman had moved, Blashaw told Patch.

"They took the ashes to her husband, who was extremely grateful," Mission Viejo Police Services reported.

The husband told police that the ashes had been lost years before.
Deputies presented Justin and his partner both with challenge coins for being outstanding citizens.

The two workers received challenge coins for going above and beyond, police said. OCSD photo.
Though seemingly similar to the discovery of human skeletal remains dug up in a backyard on the 24000 block of Via Madrugada earlier this week, this is a separate finding, she said.

That case remains under DNA investigation by the Department of Justice, she said.
