Misson Viejo Edges Edison, 1-0, in Girls Soccer Playoffs

Junior Carly Mottram's goal and sophomore Mikalea Berger's nine saves help lift Diablos to quarterfinals of CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs, where they will meet second-seeded Esperanza.

Junior Carly Mottram scored in the 43rd minute and sophomore goalkeeper Mikalea Berger had nine saves to give Mission Viejo a 1-0 victory over Edison in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 girls soccer playoffs Tuesday evening at Edison High.

The Diablos ((13-6-1), runners-up in the South Coast League, advance to play second-seeded Esperanza in Friday's quarterfinals at Mission Viejo High. They also won their first-round match, 1-0, over Valencia of Valencia on an overtime goal by freshman Kiana Palacios.

Edison's Natalie McNeely had three saves and Shelby Karal had two in goal for the Chargers (16-6-4), the champions of the Sunset League who had won eight matches in a row coming into Tuesday's game.
