New School Calendar will Provide AP Students with More Instructional Days
Capistrano Unified School District To Vote On New School Calendar For 2016-17 at March 11, 2015 Board Meeting

Advanced Placement examinations are taken each May by students at participating American, Canadian, and international educational institutions. The tests are the culmination of year-long Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Many colleges and universities in the U.S. grant credits or advanced placement based on AP test scores. If a student scores a 3 or higher on any given exam credit for that course will be granted or course prerequisites to be waived by most US Institutions. Colleges may also take AP grades into account when deciding which students to accept.
The test is given on the same dates across the United States and abroad. AP Students in Districts that start school later were at a disadvantage to other students in Districts that started school earlier because they had less instructional time before testing.
The Board’s vote to change the start and end date of the 2016-17 Calendar will provide more instructional time for the District’s AP students and make them more competitive with their piers in other Districts.
