Second Car Chase to Cross Orange County Today Ends in San Onofre

The wild car chase across southern California freeways, through Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties, ended after two hours.

SAN ONOFRE, CA — In the second car chase in the region Monday, the driver of a black Lincoln Navigator was finally stopped after two hours of evading the police on the freeways of southern California. The chase, which originated in Los Angeles' Calabasas area, wove through a network of freeways until the suspect drove through Westminster, Costa Mesa and the Laguna Hills. Ending in San Onofre, the driver at last surrendered to police.

This morning, a woman evaded officers in a lengthy car chase that started in Los Angeles and ended in San Diego County's Pala Mesa area.

This afternoon's chase began at just after noon in Calabasas and ended two hours later.

The suspect, reportedly wanted for a reckless driving offense, took off and drove through Los Angeles, Orange and finally San Diego counties. The male driver, as reported by ABC7, pulled over and surrendered to police.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver was originally spotted in Calabasas, where officers attempted to pull him over on suspicion of driving impaired. The motorist kept going, and the chase was caught on camera by multiple news organizations.

Heading southbound on the 101 Freeway, the Navigator reached speeds upwards of 101 miles per hour at approximately 12:30 p.m. The suspect ranged in speeds from 90 to 100 mph across the network of Los Angeles County freeways, including the 210, 188 and 5, until he ended up back on the 405 southbound into Orange County.

"Sheriff's deputies struggled to catch up before CHP officials took over the case," ABC7 reported. There were no injuries reported with this chase and no automobile crashes, according to officials.

The pursuit ended in a peaceful arrest on the southbound 5 Freeway, according to officials. There is no word on why the suspect evaded arrest.
