Super Tuesday Results: OC Supervisor, State Assembly Seats

By Wednesday, more winners were made clear following the March 3 election.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Across Orange County, one of the most watched races was that for the two incumbent races for County Supervisor, as District 1 and District 3 were back up for grabs.

In the Orange County Supervisor race, District 1 Supervisor Andrew Do was leads in his reelection bid with 44.60 percent of the votes counted.

He will have to face a November election against either Westminster City Councilman Sergio Contreras, who had 20.57 percent, or termed-out Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido, with 19.93 percent. Just 382 votes separate Contreras and Pulido as of Wednesday afternoon.

Republican Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner of the 3rd District will likely win another term, according to recent vote counts.

Wagner was leading Democratic challenger Ashleigh Aitken 54.42 percent to 45.58 percent on Wednesday afternoon.

Garden Grove City Councilwoman Kim Nguyen finished last with 14.90 percent.

In the state assembly, race results are being made more clear with the surge in votes counted.

In the 37th Assembly District, Republican Sen. John Moorlach, of Costa Mesa, led the pack in his reelection effort.

Moorlach had 49.95 percent of the vote, with UC Irvine law professor Dave Min at 25.50 percent and Costa Mesa Katrina Foley at 24.55 percent. Min leads Foley by 1,569 votes, leaving it unclear as of this report who will challenge Moorlach in November.

In the 29th District, Republican Sen. Ling Ling Chang, of Brea, captured 49.90 percent of the vote, setting up a runoff with former state Sen. Josh Newman, who was recalled and lost to Chang.

Republicans also held their own in the 72nd Assembly District with former state Sen. Janet Nguyen making a comeback with 35.09 percent of the vote over incumbent Republican Assemblyman Tyler Diep with 26.46 percent.

Diep has angered some Republican leaders, who complained he has sided with Democrats too often. Democrats Diedre Nguyen and Bijan Mohseni trail with 23.66 percent and 14.78 percent respectively.

Assemblyman Steven Choi, R-Irvine, appears headed for a runoff in the 68th District with Democrat Irvine City Councilwoman Melissa Fox. Choi had 45.62 percent with Fox trailing with 31.91 percent.

Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, D-Laguna Beach, will face off with Newport Beach Mayor Diane Dixon. Petrie-Norris leads 49.21 percent in the 74th District ahead of Dixon with 26.93 percent, but Republican Deputy District Attorney Kelly Ernby is close behind with 23.87 percent.
