Tiny Target Coming To Town In South Orange County

This will be the fourth small format Target store opening in Orange County. Will you shop there? Here is what you can get when you walk in.

LADERA RANCH, CA — Residents in Ladera Ranch are used to seeing shops close recently, with grocery chains abandoning ship and large scale retail spaces being vacated. It was a nice change to learn that a new small-format store in Mission Viejo, near the Ladera Ranch community, will be coming in 2018.

The 29,800 sq.-ft. small-format store will be located at the intersection of Crown Valley Parkway and Puerta Real in the Puerta Real Plaza shopping center, a spokesperson for the chain told Patch.

This will be Target’s fourth small-format store in Orange County, including the two stores that opened in 2017 at University Center near UC-Irvine and Orange East, and the Anaheim store opening this July.

Nationwide, Target is reaching new guests by expanding small-format stores in urban areas, dense suburban neighborhoods and near college campuses – places where a traditional-sized Target store may not fit. These stores offer a shopping experience and assortment that is tailored to meet the needs of local guests.

“Target is designing this store specifically for Ladera Ranch families and residents, located in the heart of this active community. Our Mission Viejo store will offer a shopping experience that’s easy and inspiring, designed to meet the needs of the neighborhood,” said Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Properties, Target.

Target has signed a lease with Merlone Geier Partners for the Mission Viejo store, which will offer residents and visitors a quick-trip shopping option including:

  • Essentials and beauty products
  • Baby and kids merchandise, including basics, apparel and toys
  • Apparel and accessories for men and women
  • A curated assortment of home products and accessories
  • A grocery selection with a focus on wellness offerings, including fresh produce, grab-and-go items, snacks and meal solutions

This store will also offer Order Pickup, giving guests even more convenience and added security with the ability to buy online and pick up in store. More than 95 percent of Order Pickup orders are ready in less than an hour for guests at their local Target store.

The Mission Viejo store will employ up to 55 team members. Target is an employer that values the individuals who come together as a team to serve guests in the community and provides team members with opportunities to build and develop skills for their careers. Target offers market competitive wages to its team members in cities across the country and recently increased its minimum hourly wage. This investment in the team will allow Target to continue to recruit and retain strong team members and provide an elevated experience for its guests and in the communities it serves.

“MGP is thrilled with the addition of Target as the anchor of this project, which will bring a popular retail option to the community. We’re also looking forward to adding other quality tenants to provide a superior shopping experience for the neighborhood and its residents,” said Will Tipton, Managing Director, Merlone Geier Partners.
