Authorities Searching For Gunman In SGV Man's Shooting

Responding officers found the victim lying on the north sidewalk and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

AZUSA, CA -- Authorities asked for the public's help Tuesday in their search for a gunman who shot and wounded a 27-year-old man in Azusa.

The shooting was reported at 10:32 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of East Arrow Highway, according to the Azusa Police Department.

Responding officers found the victim, a La Puente resident, lying on the north sidewalk and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, said Azusa police Sgt. John Madaloni. Officers and an off-duty nurse who walked to the scene after hearing the shots provided first aid, Madaloni said.

"The victim was less than cooperative in providing details of the assault against him, and after being stabilized by paramedics from the (Los Angeles County) fire department, he was transported to a regional trauma center for advanced care," Madaloni said in a statement.

He underwent at least one emergency surgery and was in critical condition, the sergeant added.

Evidence was located at the scene and witnesses were being sought, he said. The motive for the shooting was not immediately determined, but Madaloni said investigators have not ruled out the possibility of the shooting being gang-related.

Anyone with information on the violence was urged to call Azusa police Det. Chris Franks at (626) 812-3223.
