Authorities Searching for Suspected Armed Robber

The man was suspected in an armed robbery outside a San Gabriel Valley motel, authorities said.

SAN DIMAS, CA -- Sheriff's detectives are searching for a man who robbed another man at gunpoint outside a Motel 6 in San Dimas Sunday after asking the man for some money to help him out, police said.

The robbery took place about 12:40 p.m. at the Motel 6 at 502 W. Arrow Highway, according to sheriff's Sgt. Terrence Smith.

The suspect approached the victim outside the motel and asked him to help him out by giving him some money, Smith said. "When the man reached into his backpack to get his wallet to give the man some money, the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded the man hand over the wallet, which he did."

The suspect then fled on foot running east on Arrow Highway, Smith continued.

The suspect was described as a male Hispanic, about 25 years-old, with a shaved head and wearing a blue and red plaid shirt, Smith added.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of this robber was asked to call the sheriff's San Dimas station at (909) 450-2700. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS. All tips can be made anonymously.
