Autopsy: Coroner Rules Old Town Shooting a Suicide

An autopsy was performed on the man whom police said shot himself in front of his ex-wife and child on a sidewalk in Old Town, a coroner's official said.

Medical examiners have officially determined that the was a suicide after performing an autopsy Monday, a coroner's official said.

Lt. Fred Corral of the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner said the 45-year-old male from Texas died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The man is still not being identified because his next of kin has yet to be notified.

Police said the man followed his ex-wife and their child to a sidewalk across the street from and confronted her. He pulled a gun and was pointing it at her head when officers arrived, police said.

When told to drop the weapon, the man turned the gun on himself, police said.
