LA Children's Chorus Winter Concert on Dec. 12 & 13, 2015
Featuring a Stocking Stuffer of Sublime Music by Debussy, Mozart, Vaughan Williams, Francisco Nunez, Enrique Feliu and Others

Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC) – acclaimed for its pure, agile, bel canto sound that has made it one of the most in-demand children’s choirs in the country – presents its popular Winter Concert, “Let Beauty Awake,” a stocking stuffer of sublime music, on two consecutive Sundays, December 6 and 13, 2015, 7 pm, at Pasadena Presbyterian Church. Highlights include Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Let Beauty Awake, part of a cycle of nine songs set to poems by Robert Louis Stevenson, which inspired the concert’s theme; John Rutter’s Personent Hodie from “Dancing Day,” a timeless collection of holiday carols published in 1974; and Amen Shem Nora, a compelling Sephardic folk song arranged by R. Remstein. Also featured are Misa Pequena by highly regarded composer/conductor Francisco Nunez of the Young People’s Chorus of New York; the Cuban lullaby A la hora from “Desde mi alegra jardin” by Enrique Feliu; and Debussy’s moving art song Noël des enfants qui n’ont plus de maison, with a text highlighting the despair and challenges of French children living through WWII. Other works include the Finnish welcome song Tervetuloa; traditional German carols In Dulci Jubilo and Kling, Glöckchen; Bach’s Domine Deus from Mass in G, Bist du bei mir and Den Tod; Eleanor Daley’s The Birds; Emilio Grenet’s Si Tú Supiera; the Japanese folksong Fuyu no Uta; and Franck’s Panis Angelicus. Repertoire varies for each concert. Guest soloists are LACC alumnus Cantor Rachel Goldman (December 6) and soprano Elissa Johnston (December 13).
LACC Artistic Director Anne Tomlinson conducts the chorus’s Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. Associate Artistic Director Mandy Brigham leads the Intermediate Choir, Diana Landis leads the Apprentice Choir, and Dr. Steven Kronauer conducts the Young Men’s Ensemble. The choirs will perform separately and combined.
Tickets are $26, $38 and $44; children 17 and under are half price. For tickets and information, visit www.lachildrenschorus.org or call (626) 793-4231. Pasadena Presbyterian Church is located at 585 East Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91101.
