Man Fatally Shot Near Monrovia Identified

DUARTE, CA -- A man shot dead while walking with friends in the Mayflower Village area near Duarte was publicly identified Monday.

He was Ray Chinchilla, 20, of Duarte, according to coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz.

The shooting happened about 9:10 p.m. Saturday at Flagstone at Camino Real avenues, Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman said.

The victim now identified as Chinchilla was walking north on Flagstone Avenue with a male and a female when they were confronted by two suspects as they reached Camino Real Avenue, said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Sheriff's Information Bureau. The shooting appeared to be gang-related.

"At least one of the suspects shot at the victims before fleeing the scene in a gray Honda," Navarro-Suarez said. "The other two victims ran from the scene and called 911. They were not injured."

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the shooting scene, according to authorities.
