Jaws of Life Used for Car Wreck Rescue

A pregnant woman was transported to the hospital after being involved in a car accident Friday afternoon in Monrovia.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, a white sedan and a blue pickup truck collided at the Huntington Dr. and Mayflower Ave. intersection. An initial police investigation concluded that the accident occurred when one car failed to stop for a red light signal, according to Lt. Michael Lee of the Monrovia Police Dept.

The white sedan suffered major side damage, while the blue pick up truck appeared to have front-end damage.

Firefighters used the jaws of life to pry both of the right side doors off the white sedan to extricate a pregnant female passenger. She was placed on a stretcher with a mask over her face. Though the woman did not have any visible external injuries, she was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital as a precaution, according to Lt. Lee.
