Prosecutors Decline to File Charges in Dodger Stadium Brawl

A Monrovia man and three others were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon following a brawl at Dodger Stadium, but prosecutors say the men may have been acting in self defense.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office declined today to file felony charges against four men who were arrested in connection with a fight in a Dodger Stadium parking lot after Sunday night's game.

Prosecutors referred the case to the City Attorney's Office, which will consider whether to file misdemeanor charges.

Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office, said there were questions about whether the four men could have been acting in self-defense, since witnesses to the brawl couldn't say definitively who started the fight.

The four men -- Arthur Morales, 30, of Monrovia; Alan Trujillo, 29, of Los Angeles; Ulisis Briceno, 26, of Los Angeles; and Alejandro Briceno, 29, of La Crescenta -- were arrested Sunday night after the altercation at the stadium. They were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and all posted bail Monday.

Police said the fight was prompted by a minor traffic accident in a stadium parking lot Sunday night. The two drivers involved got out of their respective vehicles and a fight ensued. At that point, three men from another vehicle joined the fray, holding down one of the drivers, who was punched and kicked, police said.

The injured man, whose name was withheld, was treated at a hospital and released. A passenger in his vehicle, a woman about eight months pregnant, was taken to a hospital for a precautionary examination and then released, police said. She was not involved in the altercation.
