Small Plane Makes Hard Landing at Pomona Fairplex

The pilot put the plane down for an emergency landing near the fairgrounds' race track grandstand, authorities said.

POMONA, CA -- A small plane made what was described as a hard landing Wednesday evening on the race track at Fairplex in Pomona, but firefighters reported only minor injuries to one person.

The emergency landing occurred about 6:40 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The plane was a single-engine Beechcraft F33A that experienced engine failure while en route to Cable Airport in Upland from Selma Airport near Fresno, according to Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration.

The pilot put the plane down near the fairgrounds' race track grandstand, he said, adding that neither of the two people aboard was seriously injured.

The plane had substantial damage, Gregor said.
