• County provides $750,000 for new Montebello fire station (wavepublication.com) — Montebello is getting $750,000 in county Measure B funds to expand emergency medical services at the new Fire Station 58 in the Metro Heights area, a high fire-risk zone. The station will be the city’s fourth, aiming to cut response times, bolster wildfire protection, and add space for paramedics and community assistance once construction begins.

The story follows him and another recruit through training, career changes, and the demanding process of becoming sworn campus officers dedicated to running toward danger when others run away.
• Harriet Kumagawa (rafu.com) — Montebello is mourning the passing of 94-year-old longtime resident Harriet Kimiko Kumagawa, who died peacefully on April 11. Friends and family can honor her at a graveside service at Rose Hills Memorial Park on May 15 at 11 a.m. She is remembered as a devoted homemaker who kept close ties across Southern California and Hawaii.
