Today's riddle: What do you call a one-legged Big Foot? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. A Peek at the Biltmore's Poolside Palapas (sitelinesb.com) — Montecito residents will see East Valley Garage continue operating under new ownership as Sixteen Ten Montecito Garage, while StretchLab Montecito has closed and other local businesses are opening or moving nearby. The update also notes a public Zoom meeting on October 12 about shifting a proposed second rail track off Padaro Lane, plus city discussions on renaming Calle Cesar Chavez and recent vandalism of memorial tree plaques.
2. Montecito Mulling State Water Allotment Sale to Solomon Hills Development (noozhawk.com) — Montecito Water District is weighing a major deal to sell about 40 percent of its State Water Project allocation to supply the proposed 4,000-home Solomon Hills development, with a key board discussion set for Tuesday morning on San Ysidro Road. Officials say desalination now secures Montecito and Summerland's needs, and the potential $40 million payment could reshape local finances without reducing current water reliability.
3. Power Off for 187 Amid Wind Advisory; More SCE Shutoffs Possible for Thousands (noozhawk.com) — Parts of Montecito, including the hills, are under a wind advisory and at risk for Public Safety Power Shutoffs through early Wednesday, with gusts up to 45 mph possible. Southern California Edison has already cut power near Tajiguas and warns over 22,000 more customers could be affected. Residents should secure loose items, drive carefully, and check if their address faces a shutoff.
4. 100 Years of The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden (independent.com) — Montecito diners can join the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden's centennial celebration by trying Monte's special Hazy Daze cocktail, made with lavender sourced directly from the garden and benefiting its programs. Throughout October, 11 area bars and restaurants will pour garden-inspired drinks, while the garden itself offers free themed Sundays, discounted new memberships, and family- and dog-friendly activities.
