The City of Glendale's Armenian Genocide Commemoration at the Alex Theatre remembered the lives lost and celebrated the Armenian culture 97 years after the Ottoman Empire killed nearly 1.5 million Armenians.
Hundreds of community members and local dignitaries gathered at the Alex Theatre to remember and honor victims of the Armenian Genocide from 1915 to 1923.

Obama had vowed as a presidential candidate to recognize the genocide once in office, however he has faced opposition from Turkey, a key NATO ally, Huffington Post reported. Turkish leaders have long rejected the term genocide to describe the massacre.
