My selection of the Best Mac OS X apps for business use

While there are many Best Mac OS X apps lists out there and we could argue till OS XI is released about which are truly “the best” These are some of our favorites here at Red Horse Solutions. Please feel free to comment about your favorite Mac apps as we always love to find a new gem or old forgotten.

Evernote

Evernote allow you to capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and searchable at any time, from anywhere. Use Evernote to jot notes, create to-do lists, clip entire Web pages, manage passwords, and record audio. Everything added to Evernote is automatically synchronized across platforms and devices and made searchable. Evernote will even recognize printed or handwritten text in photos and images.

Skype

Skype is the most popular free voice-over IP and instant messaging service globally. It allows users to text, video and voice call over the internet. Users can also call landlines and mobiles at competitive rates using Skype credit, premium accounts and subscriptions. Skype uses P2P technology to connect users on a multitude of platforms including desktop, mobile and tablet. The call quality (depending on your internet signal) and additional features like conversation history, conference calling and secure file transfer are excellent.

VLC

VLC (initially VideoLAN Client) is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework. VLC also is a highly portable player for various audio and video formats, including MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, MP3, and OGG, as well as for DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It also can be used as a server for unicast or multicast streams in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.

Gmail for Mac

Gmail for Mac is the first and only true email client for Gmail, with a reliable and robust desktop experience — not just a browser with Gmail in it. It is designed to fully and reliably implement all the amazing features of Gmail. Gmail for Mac allows you to use Gmail as a true email client, like Mail or Outlook, as well as having multiple Gmail accounts.

Dropbox

Have you ever wished that you could access your files from anywhere? We made Dropbox because we were tired of e-mailing files to ourselves or carrying around a USB key. Once installed, Dropbox is just like any other folder on your computer, but with a twist. Any file you put in it will synchronize both to any other computers you may have on Dropbox, as well as to the web. Furthermore, any changes you make to any of your files will be sync’d up to all your other computers instantly, across Windows, Mac and Linux. Dropbox also makes it very easy to share and collaborate on files with others.

Bartender for Mac

Bartender lets you organize your menu bar apps, by hiding them, rearranging them, or moving them to Bartender’s Bar. You can display the full menu bar, set options to have menu bar items show in the menu bar when they have updated, or have them always visible in Bartender’s Bar.There are loads of ways to configure Bartender to perform as you wish.

Photoshop CC

The Adobe Photoshop family of products is the ultimate playground for bringing out the best in your digital images, transforming them into anything you can imagine and showcasing them in extraordinary ways. With new Creative Cloud Libraries, you will get quick access to all your favorite images, colors, type styles, brushes, and more — and easily share assets with Illustrator CC and mobile apps like Sketch and Draw.

Alfred for Mac

Alfred is an award-winning productivity application for Mac OS X, which aims to save you time in searching your local computer and the web. Whether it’s maps, Amazon, eBay, Wikipedia, you can feed your web addiction quicker than ever. Alfred for Mac learns your preferences as you use it and lets you create workflows in order to streamline navigation.

CCleaner

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Mac to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner.

Hazel for Mac

Hazel is your personal housekeeper, organizing and cleaning folders based on rules you define. Hazel can also manage your trash and uninstall applications. Organize your files using a familiar rule interface. Filter on the file’s name, type, date, the site or email address it came from and more. And do more than just file. You can set color labels, Spotlight keywords and comments and even archive files. Hazel also cleans, sporting options to clean out incomplete and duplicate downloads. All this is done automatically in the background allowing you to focus on your real work.
