Update: Bomb Squad Investigates Alleged Hand Grenade in Automobile

Sheriff's bomb squad specialists are inspecting a suspicious device, allegedly a hand grenade, in the alley behind Classic Collision Center, Inc. in La Crescenta.

Update: Glendale police officials said the hand grenade inside the car in La Crescenta is inert, according to the the Glendale News-Press.

Previously: A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department bomb squad team is investigating a suspicious device found inside a car parked behind in La Crescenta, Glendale Police Department officials told Montrose Patch.  

The call went out about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at 3261 Foothill Blvd., near Pennsylvania Avenue, Glendale police Lt. Scott Bickle told Montrose Patch. The car apparently sat in the lot for about three years.

which is the business located next door, was evacuated, along with the apartment building facing the alley where the automobile is parked, Bickle said. 

A Glendale police helicopter is flying over the area while bomb squad officials inspect the device wearing protective gear and prepare to X-ray the device, Bickle said.

"Everything's good. The bomb squad is looking at the device, and they're determining if it's safe," Bickle said. 

"We'll get it resolved here shortly," Bickle said. 

The vehicle was traded in and workers were trying to refurbish it for sale when they found a suspicious device and called police, who then confirmed that it appeared to be a hand grenade, according to NBC4
