Patch Blog: Harry Potter Galore

A Crescenta Valley High student says what the end of the Harry Potter franchise means to her. (Minor spoilers!)

As I walked out of the theater, I could barely make up the thoughts of what just happened during the last two and a half hours. I had waited over four hours to spend my time in this snuggly seat to result in a white slate of mind. It was indeed over, but I just could not grasp that fact in.

I remember once walking into a Los Angeles theater while holding my mom's hand, not knowing what I was actually putting myself into for the next few hours. There wasn't any long line or people who decided to dress up as crazy as the materials would let them. It was just a plain and casual viewing of the first Harry Potter movie -- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I still remember myself shocked at the nearly dead Voldemort who had a hugely shaped head. I did not know what was going on for I was still only in first grade, and seeing a professor who had two heads merely seemed too fictional to be taken seriously.

I have come to realize that the magic is just an extra package to what makes the series extraordinary. What makes the movies so breathtaking is the storyline. How teenagers are given life-threatening tasks while dealing with the obstacles reality throws at them is an adventure us normal muggles want to take. After all, who wouldn't want to live in a magic-filled world full of flying brooms and prophesized lives?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was more than just a record-holding movie. It was an end to a story that had filled our childhoods with fantasy and wondrous fiction.  As Harry Potter and his friends waved their goodbyes to the magical train from Platform 9 3/4, we had also left our childhoods with them.
