Changing Faces One Brow at a Time

Bringing the luxury of Beverly Hills to Montrose, EyeCandy Beauty Bar serves up everything face-related from threading to specialty facials to lavish make-up.

Honolulu Avenue is home to some of the most innovative and lush , but no one does faces quite like .

Located in the heart of downtown Montrose and changing the face of beauty one resident at a time, this luxurious space is dedicated to bringing the best in beauty with services and products that cater exclusively to the face.

A 32-year resident of Montrose, EyeCandy owner Karolin Sahakian grew up with an unwavering desire to embrace the world of beauty. Sahakian grew tired of driving nearly an hour from Montrose to Beverly Hills every month just to get a facial containing the coveted beauty product, Natura Bisse, the holy grail of skincare, sold at stores like Neiman Marcus.

“All these years I’ve been going to Beverly Hills to get the best products and the best facials. I was tired of driving! I thought there must be a lot of people in this area that would like the same type of products and services,” said Sahakian.

“We are the closest [location] that carries Natura Bisse. It’s very popular with celebrities and the Hollywood industry. I also use DermaQuest. That product has pretty much been only in doctor’s offices and as of last year, they have started coming into little boutiques such as mine.”

“My goal was to bring the best that I can over here,” Sahakian added, whose salon offers ten different types of luxurious facials.

Amidst one of the biggest recessions, EyeCandy boldly opened it’s doors in June of 2010. Clearly, Sahakian took a chance, but that chance has been paying off ever since.

“Business has been good! We increase every week and every month, so I am happy about that. I do get a lot of return customers and new customers,” revealed Sahakian.

According to Sahakian, the most prominent feature on a person are the eyes and eye brows. It makes sense, than, that threading is one of the services EyeCandy offers. Threading began in the Middle East hundreds of years ago and is gaining more and more popularity here in the States.

“Threading is [practiced] gently and without harsh effects, removing the hair from your face with two threads,” explains Sahakian.

“The niche of our business here is everything to do with your face. Therefore; we do threading, facials and make-up. Right now probably seventy percent of clients come for threading and thirty percent come for facials.”

When it comes to facials, this beauty bar offers only top notch services. “We have two specialty facials—the Pumpkin Peel and the Pineapple Papaya Acne for teens. A lot of teenagers come in here with acne problems, so I decided to do a facial that was exclusively for them,” said Sahakian.

According to Sahakian, the main facial that Montrose residents come in for is "The Cure," a 90-minute treatment healing treatmnt. The "Vitamin C Blast" and "Oxygen Bliss" are also local favorites.

“It’s all about prevention and prolonging the signs of aging,” said  Sahakian, who left her lengthy stead in the corporate world to take on the beauty business.

As for makeup artistry, EyeCandy exclusively uses Smashbox cosmetics for beautifying clients for weddings, events or just a night on the town. A cosmetic artist is available by appointment only.

“When somebody sees you, the first thing they look at is your face. We can hide the body, but we can’t hide our face,” Sahakian explained.
