Cinco de Mayo, which takes on May 5, is a holiday to commemorate Mexican heritage and pride. To join the Cinco de Mayo celebration, here are a few places in Montrose to check out.

Kicking off the weekend festivities, will have its annual Cinco de Mayo celebration with street tacos and tamales at 6 p.m. on Saturday as well as Corona and Pacifico for $3. Tacos are $1.50 each and tamales are $2 each. Enjoy the neighborhood bar, complete with a pool table, shuffleboard and TouchTunes Virtuo. Visit Blue Moon Lounge at 3509 North Verdugo Road in Montrose. Special guest Logan Bartholomew who just guest starred in this week's Hawaii Five-0 will be manning the Pacifico kegerator at 9 p.m.

A popular Mexican eatery in town since 1955, is offering specials for Cinco de Mayo. Drink discounts include $1 off margaritas and beers for $3. Those who are hungry can indulge the carnitas dinner special ($9.95) or any of the signature items, like burrito grande ($9.95) or tostada grande ($9.95), that will be marked down for the day. Check out El Charro for its friendly and fast service at 3741 North Verdugo Road in Montrose.
Joselito
Voted Montrose Patch Readers’ Choice Winner for the best margarita in town, is having a special on the drinks menu for Cinco de May including avion tequila and avion margaritas ($8.75 for a double and $11.50 for a triple). Apart from the avion beverages, there are also a number of continental margaritas to savor. Complete the meal with favorites like crispy quesadillas lito ($9.95) and cheese enchiladas litos ($8.95). Joselito's is located at 2345 Honolulu Avenue in Montrose.
La Cabanita
Frequented by food connoisseurs and locals, offers a varied menu and drink list for Cinco de Mayo. A favorite dish of diners is the mole verde ($13.95), which features pork or chicken lathered with a special green mole sauce and served with black beans, rice, and homemade corn tortillas. There’s also the pollo con mole ($13.95) to try, chicken breast topped with the special mole sauce and also served with black beans, rice and homemade corn tortillas. Pepe’s
A family-owned restaurant that was first in La Cañada and is now in Montrose, offers delicious Mexican food and drinks. The restaurant is known for its complimentary chips and salsa. Visitors can also sample the crunchy tacos, which come with either chicken, potato, ground or shredded beef (two tacos are $10 to $11 depending on the filling). Pepe’s is located at 2272 Honolulu Avenue in Montrose.
Torta’s Mexico
Known for its use of fresh ingredients, has a number of sweet and savory dishes. One of its more famous dishes is the carne asada with charbroiled ranchera flap steak ($8.49).
