Comments of the Week: 'Can We Go Back to Starting After Labor Day Again and Stop Ruining Family Vacations'

Check out the best, funniest, strangest and most informative things our readers have to say.

We're getting a late start to the regular work week due to Labor Day, but it's never too late to take a look at Patch's Comments of the Week.

We take pride in our work here at Patch and always strive to bring our readers interesting news. However, we must admit, sometimes the most interesting part of a great Patch story is the comments from readers that it sparks.

Here are some of the best, funniest, strangest and most informative comments from Patch stories around the Crescenta Valley Patch sites this past week:

Academic Performance Index test score numbers were released last week, and its always a big and important news event for those passionate about their local school district. With the news that scores had dropped for the Crescenta Valley schools in the Glendale Unified School District, reader Brandi Emmons Nalley gets our Comment of the Week for this comment on our Facebook page:

Brandi Emmons Nalley And they kept claiming if we start the school year earlier scores would be better. Can we go back to starting after Labor Day again and stop ruining family vacations.

There was big breaking news outside of LCF in the Angeles National Forest when a woman who was missing for 10 days was found by the Montrose Search and Rescue Team. Deputy Reserve Chief Mike Leum of the team commented on our Facebook page story about the rescue:

Mike Leum A great team effort by LASD, horses, dog, helicopter, Montrose SAR team and Sierra Madre SAR teams!

An finally, another big story last week was the news that the Twelve Oaks Lodge Assisted Living Facility in the Verdogo City area was closing after 80 years. Reader John MacDougall summed up many locals' feelings about the news:

Totally bizarre that it is closing so suddenly. There was no public discussion of financial problems, or any public discussion at all. There is no permit application for development of the property, which will certainly be problematic. The permitting process will surely take years, not months, so there is no reason to hurry in vacating the facility, yet they are giving residents, who generally planned to live out their lives there, only the minimum 60 days required by law to relocate. Why did "be" even acquire the facility, only to then sell it off for the land value a few years later? Did they even attempt to find a buyer who would keep it open for assisted living? There are actually more than twelve of those protected oaks on the property, which will not be that easy to re-develop around. This facility has been there for 80 years, and is part of the character of the area.
