County Fire Ready During Temperature Climb

Increased wind and a 107-degree heat warning from the National Weather Service are prompting Los Angeles County Fire Department to have extra staff prepared for a fire.

Los Angeles County fire officials are on heightened alert as persistent heat and wind is set to hit the foothills.

Temperatures could soar about 107 degrees through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

In response, Los Angeles County Fire Department has increased staffing for the next 12 hours throughout the foothill region, county Inspector Quevondo Johnson told Patch.

“We’ve had high temperatures for the last few weeks and what we’re concerned about now is the wind is picking up,” Johnson said.

North and northeast winds ranging from 15 to 25 mph could blow through the passes and canyons during the morning hours, combined with an offshore flow and warm air mass in the Los Angeles area, the NWS reports.
