Knives Stolen at Orchard Supply Hardware in La Crescenta

An unknown man walked into and asked to see some knives before allegedly stealing them and running from store employees, sheriff's deputies reported. 

The incident happened June 12 about 7:10 p.m. at 3100 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta, officials said. 

The knives were locked inside a display case. An employee opened the display case and handed them to the suspect for viewing. The suspect asked if he could purchase the knives at the downstairs register. Before she could answer him, the suspect entered the elevator to get to the downstairs register. The employee asked her co-workers downstairs if he had come to purchase the knives.

“The employees told her no one fitting that description ever paid for any knives,” sheriff’s officials reported.

The employee then went downstairs and saw the suspect outside of the exit doors still holding the knives. As soon as the suspect made eye contact with the employee, he began running with the knives out of the parking structure and south on Cloud Avenue.

The other employees followed the suspect south on Cloud Avenue, westbound along Prospect Avenue when they lost him.

Deputies conducted a search but never found the suspect. 

Investigators viewed video surveillance but found that it only captured the back of the suspect.

TomTom Taken in Montrose Vehicle Break-in and Burglary

Someone smashed the driver’s side window of a 25-year-old Montrose man’s company vehicle and stole his “TomTom” navigation system, according to sheriff's reports.  

The vehicle burglary in the 2300 Block of Mira Vista Avenue in Montrose happened sometime between 7:30 p.m. June 13 and 7:20 a.m. June 14, authorities said. 

“The victim said he had parked his vehicle outside of his residence and locked his doors,” according to the report.

“The victim said he did not hear any noises throughout the night nor did he see anyone near his vehicle,” sheriff’s deputies said.

Glass debris indicated the window was smashed.

“There was an empty space above the dashboard where the victim stated he left his navigation system,” officials said.

No finger prints were requested because the driver’s side window and doorway were contaminated by the victim.  

The TomTom navigation system is valued about $180. The broken window damage is estimated about $300.
