Crime Blotter: Parolee Booked

A parolee is charged with three counts after an alert citizen reports his presence as suspicious.

The following reports were taken from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Cresecenta Valley Station.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A female resident of the 2100 block of Waltonia Drive came home on Sunday morning to find that a flat screen television and laptop computer had been stolen. There was no evidence of forced entry as the victim remembered leaving her back door unlocked. The value of both items totaled $1200.

PAROLEE CHARGED

Just after 5 a.m. on Friday, a citizen flagged down a passing deputy to report a man he believed to be suspicious near his home. The reporting party noted that he had never before seen the stranger who was sitting on a bike, not moving. Considering the with the low temperature, early hour, and recent vehicle burglaries in the area, the alert citizen did not think it seemed normal for the neighborhood.

Upon reaching the cross section of Fairway Drive and Ramsdell Avenue, the responding deputy engaged the man, who was recognized as parolee Dana Ray Knox, 31, of La Crescenta. Knox had been mentioned in several Crescenta Valley Sheriff Station crime reports througout the last year.

Knox admitted that he was on parole for a narcotics charge. When searched, Knox’s pockets were found to contain a credit card in a name other than his own, a small flashlight, and a metal tool the deputy recognized as one commonly used to break into cars.

While Knox claimed the credit card belonged to an ex-girlfriend, this could not be confirmed. What was confirmed was that the bike upon which Knox was sitting had been reported stolen two months earlier.

Knox was booked and charged with parole violation, possession of burglary tools and receiving stolen property.
