'Drug Take-Back' Nets Large Cache of Drugs

Multi-agency effort over last weekend provided safe method for residents to dispose of unwanted medicines.

A combined effort between Glendale Police, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department and police from Glendale Community College netted a sizable collection of unused prescription drugs last Saturday.

Authorities collected more than 950 pounds of drugs April 27 during the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, organized by the Drug Enforcement Administration, authorities said.

The drugs were collected at three sites in Glendale, as well as in La Crescenta-Montrose, and La Canada Flintridge, authorities said.

In the five previous take-back events nationwide, the DEA and partnering agencies have collected more than 2 million pounds of prescription medications, according to the DEA.

The National Drug Prescription Take-Back Day aims to provide citizens with a safe and anonymous method for removing unused prescription drugs from homes, keeping everyone out of harm's way.
