Five Things for a Fantastic Thursday!
Let your kids get crafty while you plan the perfect grilled dinner.

1. Teens and tweens can learn to make summery macrame and shell bracelets at the (4521 La Crescenta Ave.), from 3 to 5 p.m. Materials are provdied. Call the library at 818-248-5313 for details.
2. Don't be bored with your summer menu. Patch offers numerous recipes and ideas to keep your summer fresh and flavorful. Try this easy and cool to add a bit of zest to your weekend BBQ or even brunch.
3. At 5:30 p.m., Descanso Gardens opens up for picnics and a night of jazz drumming with Sammy Miller. Concerts are free with gardens admission. Snacks and beverages are allowed, a treat in the usually food-free park. See Descanso's website for more information.

4. isn't the only Los Angeles mountain park that offers events for families and solo hikers throughout the summer. Stop by the L.A. Mountains Facebook page and be the first to find out about scavenger hunts, ranger-led hikes, and campfires in Deukmejian and other local green spaces.
5. Don't forget that hot dogs, chicken, and burgers aren't the options for your summer grill. Luckily, Montrose is home to one of the area's best sausage makers, Shreiner's. Stop by for a deli lunch and bring home sausages made on-site and super fresh for your grilled dinner. Shreiner's is located at 3417 Ocean View Blvd and is open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
