Five Things: The Weekend Edition
Patch found five fun ways to get out this weekend without leaving town.

1. Get moving bright and early Saturday with the Crescenta Valley sponsored by the benefitting the Crescenta Valley Drug & Alcohol Coalition and the Rosemont Afterschool Sports Program. Registration starts at 7 a.m. at , 5107 Rosemont Ave. A free kids' race takes off at 7:55 a.m. followed by the grown-up version at 8 a.m. See the chamber's website for more information.
2. National Public Lands Day celebrates our backyard forests by inviting volunteers up into Tujunga canyon for a half-day of trail maintenance and liter removal. Register online and meet up at the Wildwood Picnic Area at 8 a.m. Saturday.
3. Teens guide kids in creating awesome art at the , 4521 La Crescenta Ave., Saturday. Stop in between 12:30 and 4 p.m. for this free activity led by teens and perfect for budding artists. See the library website for more information, or call 818-248-5313.

4. Beginnings Family Education Program offers a babysitting safety and skills course to kids ages 11-15 on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 818 -952-2272. The class costs $35 and will award a certificate of completion. For information, check the VHH website.
5. September is Library Card Month. Stop by the , show your car, and get a free gift - if you're less than 12 years old. Grown-ups can still enjoy a free seletion from the library's extensive book, CD, and DVD collection. The library is located at 2465 Honolulu Ave. and is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
