Foothill Boulevard Lighted Crosswalk Slated for October

A lighted crosswalk at Foothill Boulevard and Glenwood Avenue is expected to stop drivers and walkers come October 2012.

A new crosswalk in La Crescenta could avoid near-crashes and potential pedestrian injuries in October.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works continues conducting several studies, said councilmember Robbyn Battles. Installation for the lighted crosswalk is slated for October at Foothill Boulevard and Glenwood Avenue.

There are currently bright yellow signs on the north and south side of the crosswalk, but locals complain that those are ineffective, said councilmember Robbyn Battles.

Students at several local schools, including , and , use this crosswalk before and after school.

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved and will fund the project, Battles said. Crescenta Valley Town Council created a petition in June 2011 and sent it to Supervisor Michael Antonovich.

The new crosswalk will give drivers a better view and help keep pedestrians safe, CV Town Council President Cheryl Davis told Patch.

"I hope it brings an increased awareness to that crosswalk as the intersection is at an angle to the curb so it's sometimes hard to see pedestrians when they first step off the curb into the street," Davis said.

"It truly think it will help raise awareness so that when one car is stopped at the crosswalk, the other cars will stop as well when they see the lights flashing because they'll know a pedestrian is in the crosswalk," Davis said.
