In honor of all those we lost nearly 10 years ago on , I had the privilege of meeting Sam Petrosyan in Montrose. Clearly dedicated to our country and having a love affair with the single life, this Marine Corps local had it all figured out.

How do you normally meet other singles?

I come here to Oceanview quite often or . Sometimes I go to , but I have to be in the mood if you know what I mean. 

Are you a relationship type guy?

I don’t want to be in one now.

Why not? 

My heart was broken five years ago.

And you are still not over it? 

No. She cut me deep.

Did she cheat on you?

No. I cheated once with her friend though.

Not for another 20 years!

What is your background?

I am and Russian.

What are the top three qualities you look for in your ideal woman? Beside the fact that she and you will be 50 years old by then.

Brains, and some style.

(Laughs) Exactly.

Kidding of course, as I can see how dapper you dress. Where did you grow up?

Brooklyn.

How old were you when you moved here? 

26. 

Just five years ago. I thought I would show off my math skills. What is your ideal date? Are you a ?

I think so! My ideal date would be with someone I can carry a conversation with for more than five minutes.

I think that’s doable. I guess we are sort of on a date then.

I like people who know what they are talking about. They should know about the important things like politics and what is going on in the world right now and not just about bags.

I don’t know about either of those things. But are you a fan of reality television?

Is that the thing?

I guess not. And you don’t know what you’re missing, by the way. Did you go to school? 

I went to Harvard. I went there for two years and then joined the .

That’s great! Thanks for your service. Do you have friends still out there?

No. 

What is your political party? 

Independent. 

What made you decide to join the Corps?

Six of my friends died in . So, I didn’t think. I just went.

Wow. Where did they die?

In the towers. They were firefighters that I have known since pre-school. 

That is really honorable that you felt strongly enough to do something. Good for you. How did you feel when you heard was found?

Very happy. And sad at the same time.

Why?

Because I didn’t find him myself.

Have you been to ?

Yes.

How was it?

Difficult.

I cannot even imagine.

But time to move on.

I understand. Anything you want to add about being ?

I’m an easygoing guy.

I can see that.

But I have to add that, aside from my ex, my longest relationship was two months...and that was in . She wanted to share my cookies.
