Glendale's Circus Elephant Float Could be Renamed

The elephant parading a chariot cannot be changed since it's already built. Now Glendale officials want to bring a new meaning to the float.

The circus elephant float can't be changed because it's built, but there's a chance to rename for 2012.

Glendale Community Services and Parks Department requests suggestions for a new name from the current theme of "Stepping Out in Style."

Names must be submitted by email before 5 p.m. Friday to rosefloatname@ci.glendale.ca.us. One entered name will be selected and submitted to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association for approval.

PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, presented their alterations for the float to Glendale Mayor Laura Friedman, LAist reported.

However, since the float was already constructed, Councilman Frank Quintero recommended a name change to ease tensions, according to the Glendale News-Press.
