4 Ways to Scare up Fun in the Foothills This Halloween

Mark your calendar! Now you can celebrate Halloween all month long with Montrose Patch's guide to local spooktacular celebrations.

Now that Halloween is less than two weeks away, you can celebrate the horrific holiday with the whole family. Mark your calendars--there are plenty of dangerously fun events in Montrose and the surrounding community.

Whether you’d like to march around in your fabulous Wizard of Oz themed outfits or munch on pizza while carving pumpkins, there’s plenty to do this Halloween.

Don’t worry parents–this weekend long festival isn’t just for the kids. Dust off your favorite costume or and march on down to the Harvest Festival at Descanso Gardens. Attendes can strut their stuff at the costume parade, enjoy the silly Moo Doo Puppets show, “Halloween Sleeping Beauty in Outer Space,” and munch on hot dogs and corn from the Chuck Wagon Grilling Station. Participation is free with garden admission.

Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22 and 23, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Carve the night away at this family event at the Verdugo Hills YMCA. No need to BYOP (that’s bring your own pumpkin), the YMCA will have plenty of produce and carving tools on hand. Admission is $25 for a family of four and includes two pumpkins and a pizza dinner. No need to clean up the mess after you carve. Sign up today to reserve your spot.

Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Verdugo Hills Family YMCA is located at 6840 Foothill Blvd., Verdugo Hills.

This annual event takes place on none other than All Hallow’s Eve. Sponsored by the Montrose Shopping Park Association, hungry kiddies will be able to stock up on candy as they trick-or-treat down Honolulu Avenue. In addition to candy, families can play carnival games, enter a pet costume contest, munch on hot dogs and warm kettle corn and maneuver through an obstacle course. If you can moonwalk your way on the dance floor, strut your best MJ-inspired moves at the Thriller dance competition.

Monday, Oct. 31, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This event is located on the 2200 block of Honolulu Ave., Montrose.

4. A Scary Good Time at the Kids Club at Americana at Brand

You don’t have to wait until the weekend to celebrate Halloween. Dress up your kiddies in their favorite costumes and bring them to this all fun, no fright event at the Americana at Brand. Everyone in costume can munch on ghostly treats, get their fabulous face painted and watch a balloon artist make magical creations. Pop artist Twinkle Time will also perform for their crowd.

Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
