La Crescenta Mom Robbed Behind Area Church

A local woman was walking with her 14-year-old son in an alley behind New Song Evangelical Church when a man grabbed her purse, leaving her with minor injuries.

A La Crescenta mom had her purse ripped from her shoulder Monday night in an alley behind near and .

The 33-year-old woman and her 14-year-old son walked in an alley that runs north and south between Prospect and Community avenues, behind the church, about 6 p.m. in the 4400 block of La Crescenta Avenue, according to a Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station report.

She felt a person tugging the purse off her shoulder and struggled until the suspect made off with it, running eastbound through the church parking lot and out of her sight. The mother had a two-inch abrasion on her right shoulder but the child was not injured.

The victim’s purse contained her identification and $20 cash.

The suspect was described as a Latino man, 5 feet 8 inches, about 160 pounds. He has a medium complexion, spiked black hair and was wearing a black shirt and brown pants.
