The Los Angeles Writers Reading Series at GCC presents journalist, fiction writer and Cal State Long Beach instructor Alan Rifkin.

The Los Angeles Writers Reading Series at Glendale Community College presents a reading by journalist, fiction writer and Cal State Long Beach creative writing instructor Alan Rifkin on March 17 at 12:20 p.m. in the Student Center.
Rifkin’s first book, the short story collection Signal Hill, published by City Lights Books, was a finalist for the Southern California Booksellers Award in Fiction. He was also a finalist for the 2003 PEN Center USA Award in Journalism. Rifkin is a former contributing editor of Details magazine and has written for the Los Angeles Times Magazine, Premier, L.A. Weekly and The Quarterly. He also co-authored the folk-rock memoir Wounds to Bind with Jerry Burgan.
The bi-annual Los Angeles Writers Reading Series is coordinated by GCC English instructor Claire Phillips to celebrate local writers and to give students access to literary events where they can meet and talk with authors who wrote some of the material used in their English classes. Previous speakers include Janet Fitch, Aimee Bender, Bernard Cooper, David L. Ulin and James Ellroy. For additional information call 818-240-1000, ext. 5606.
