New Mom Seeks Night Out
Whoever said a husband was necessary for happiness hasn't met Derya... a single mom who believes love can conquer all.
It was a dark and stormy night in Montrose when I met Derya at New Moon. OK, so it wasn’t dark and stormy. It was dark, though. And maybe a sprinkler was on nearby. But Derya would never even have noticed the because she was too busy canoodling her beautiful 3-year-old daughter whom she adopted from China nearly two years ago. She was new to the Montrose area and spending her free time as a happy homemaker. Her goals were nothing short of attainable and her life seemed like a well functioning fairy tale.

Are you single?
Yeah, I am a single mom right now, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
How old is your daughter?
She is almost three, next month. I adopted her from China and I am so happy to have gone through so much now in order to have her in my life. She is the key to my happiness!
How was the adoption process for you?
Tedious, time consuming and pretty grueling. I had no idea it would take so long and even though I knew other that had adopted girls from there, I was dumbfounded at the amount of red tape. But it was well worth it. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
She seems very content to be here in the states. How was the transition?
Tough. It was super hard. But she has acclimated for the most part. She was over a year old when I got her already and she was set in her ways. It took a lot of time and patience to get help her become the calm child you see here today.
Do you ever want to or find a partner?
I do at some point. Right now, we have a routine for her that I don’t want to interrupt or bring any more confusion into her life. But I am always up for a date night out just for fun. My sister lives in La Crescenta, which is what brought me here, and she stays with her if I go out.
Where did you live before?
I was in Iowa stuck in a job that I was afraid to leave, really. I knew I had to make a change after having her. I came out here in April to be more near my family that I have here. It has been wonderful so far.
What is your background?
My mother was and my dad was of Turkish decent. I’m a rare mix.
Where are your favorite places to visit around here?
I love ! My daughter really has a blast going there. They have a lot of here for kids. I also like New Moon... probably because of the Chinese food! It reminds me of my time in China.
Any other favorite spots?
We spend time at and is beautiful. This place is very different from Iowa.
Do you have a career goal?
Besides being the best mom I can be, I want to eventually open up my own . I know it is a lofty goal, but I was never taught to dream small. I have a passion for skin care and make-up products so I will eventually get my esthetician license.
When you are ready to invite a man into your lives, what are the three most important qualities he should have?
Loyalty, patience and easy going. That is all I can ask! If he has those, I am good.
Nice choices!
Thanks.
What are your plans for the weekend?
My sister and my brother in-law are taking us to the . It will be the first time since we got here. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s taken time to settle in.
So, I guess you have not dated much since you have been here.
I went out twice with a man I met on a blind date. We went to . It was delicious! I can’t say that about the guy, though (laughs).
What movie are you going to see?
I think the one about dolphins.
Dolphin Tale. It was great. Do you ever want more kids?
No. I am done. But then again… never say never!
