Officials To Mail Customers of Intended Water Rate Hike

Further discussion expected on the proposed hike before a final vote comes.

Residents can expect to get a notice in the mail on a proposed rate hike the Crescenta Valley Water District intends to put in effect.

The governing board voted April 16 to mail a proposal outlining the intended 6.9 percent increase to customers' water bills, however, that rate hike may be reduced as discussion moves forward, officials said.

Boards members said infrastructure improvements need to be made to the system, including rehabilitation of two underground water wells, repairs to a water main, replacement of a 20-year-old data system the installation of a water chlorination system, among others, the Glendale News Press reported.

Officials anticipate backlash to the rate hike from customers who were reportedly weary of previous rate hikes to water bills and others.

Only a few speakers showed up to the Tuesday meeting and aired their concerns of the increases, the Glendale News Press reported.

Another discussion of the rate increase proposals is scheduled for June 11 at 6:30 p.m. The address is 2700 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.
