Patch Picks: 5 Charities Making a Difference!

Patch lets you in on local philanthropic organizations making a difference!

1. Not only does the  provide spiritual nutrition, it provides nutrition-nutrition, as well! Every Tuesday, they offer food for the homeless from 2-8:30 p.m. as part of their "Brother's Helpers" ministry. In nearby Glendale, you will find the head office of Glendale Healthy Kids, a nonprofit, non-government organization working to provide health care (including medical, mental, dental and vision) to uninsured and underinsured youth throughout Los Angeles. Established in 1993, Glendale Healthy Kids is the result of a combined effort by Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center, Verdugo Hills Hospital, Glendale Adventist Medical Center, Glendale Unified School District and the City of Glendale, as well as countless physicians and care-providers who work with the organization. 223 N. 3. is more than just a shopping destination for vintage-lovers; Goodwill strives to provide the community with affordable merchandise and provide jobs locals struggling for work. Goodwill strives to create employees who are "self-sufficient and productive," as explained on their website. 4. The Glendale Humane Society is the only "no-kill" public shelter in Los Angeles County. Their mission is to "ensure as many dogs and cats as possible receive the second chance for life they deserve." 5. The  Friends of the are the unsung heroes of the library. The Friends offer their time and talents as they work to sponsor programs, endowments and memorials, promote library events, raise funds, and create public awareness of library services and activities. 2809 Foothill Blvd., 818-248-5313.
