Recap of Montrose Town Council Meeting
Patch keeps you informed, just in case you missed it!
Missed the latest Crescenta Valley Town Council meeting? Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here are the highlights.
- After many a sincere petition from the public, the Board unamimously voted not to install sidewalks on the area of Briggs Avenue that was slated for construction. Board Vice President Steve Goldsworthy said the area is "like a park" and noted that it is "much more important to preserve that than to have a sidewalk."
- The Glendale Fire Department was pleased to announce that after 27 years of faithful service, Daryl Osby was sworn in as Los Angeles Deputy Fire Chief on Feb. 18.
- The Glendale Fire Department also wants to remind the community that the latest series of CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) is upcoming in April. All community members are encouraged to participate in this free, disaster-preparedness training program begun by the LAFD in 1985. Read Patch's coverage of CERT .
- Capt. Dave Silversparre of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station reported that crime was slightly up for the month of January (as compared with January 2010). There were four narcotics arrests, 14 larcenies and one aggravated assault (which was the product of a marital dispute gone awry).
- Silversparre also encouraged the community to attend the free workshop on "," happening Feb. 24.
- President of Glendale Community College Dawn Lindsay was happy to report that the college is thriving. It was recently commended by Washington for its use of stimulus money and also touted as the second most beautiful community college campus.
- In the next year, however, the college could face $3.7 million to $10 million in budget cuts. It is Lindsay's goal, however, to maintain quality education and "keep the feds as far away from the students aspossible."
- In other news, Crescenta Valley should expect up to 6 inches of rain beginning the evening of Feb. 18.
