Rosemont Students Rocked at Semi-Formal Dance

Seventh and eighth graders celebrated the end of the school year on Friday with a highly-anticipated evening of music, food, and entertainment.

The semi-formal dance is an annual tradition at where the seventh and eighth graders dress up in everything from full-blown ball gowns to casual black pants sporting classic Chuck Taylors.

Sponsored by the Associated Student Body, teacher Mike Anker and parent Lisa Wilson, the dance was a success. The secret? Energetic music, great snacks and great entertainment. The In-n-Out Burger wagon served up fresh dinners while Preferred Mobile Music and Promotion Events rolled out the red carpet for the students and pumped up the music.

Random dance competitions took place on the stage as the evening progressed. But the highlight of the evening was a live vocal performance from Rosemont's own eighth grader, Destined for American Idol fame, Partha sang to an adoring crowd.

I remember the dances of yesteryear, where a boy would call a girl (on a phone- from a landline) to ask her to the dance. Corsages and boutonnières and dinner reservations added to the evening's excitement. Rosemont's semi-formal dance was much more casual in nature. There were not many boys and girls actually dancing together- just a big mob of girls and a big mob of boys all dancing on the same outdoor wooden dance floor. About 500 students attended. For the eighth graders, this is their last dance before heading off to high school.
