She Likes Her Men Like She Likes Her Wine

Single and looking for old-world love, Montrose local Sarah Dresden would rather dine vegetarian with her gal pals than engage in child's play.

I first met Sarah Dresden outside of on Honolulu Avenue. This modern woman was alone, but clearly not lonely. What's more, her positive outlook and can-do attitude was refreshing to my waning  evening vigor. Montrose has been her home for the past three years, but her heart was elsewhere—set somewhere on a Polynesian island, where she last spotted the man of her dreams.

Sarah was a breath of fresh air, and when she sat down with me over peanut butter frozen yogurt, I clung to her every word. If only this headstrong wine aficionado knew how to play the game of without baring it all—and without hunting for a 19th-century dragon slayer.

What brings you out this lovely Sunday evening?

I was with some girlfriends earlier for dinner at and decided to grab a dessert on my way home.

Is it good yogurt?

Very. But the line is long here.

Are you single?

Very much so.

That was definite.

Wasn’t it? I have this bad habit of comparing my dates to a man I met awhile back … which is probably why I am still .

What happened?

I was vacationing in Fiji with my sister. I met a man who was much older, and we had a great connection. He was the type of man that would kill dragons for your honor. You know those types? Completely chivalrous and beautiful. And it has been difficult to find anyone that will measure up. The dates I have been on lately leave much to be desired.

What happened to him?

It’s complicated.

Isn’t it always?

I went on a date last weekend, and he was older, but not wiser. He took me to , which wasn’t great, because I am a vegetarian. I even told him that beforehand. He had a blast telling me all about his video-game obsession, though.

Oh, no. Was it World of Warcraft?

One of those games. He told me he plays up to six hours on any given day.

That’s hot.

Right?

So you prefer older men?

In their 50s is good. Anything below 40 seems to be a waste of time for me. And nothing against younger men; it’s really just a preference. And I don’t have father issues, either. I market for a living, and wines are always better with age, too.

Something to be said about mixing men and wine.

It’s one of my favorite past times! And I find that Montrose men are very cool. But the older ones are usually married and settled down. At this point, I am not looking to settle down, though. I really want to have a without having a partner. And, later on down the road, settle with someone who is perfect for me.

It is 2011. That can be done. What are the top three qualities you look for in a man? Besides older, of course.

That’s an interesting question.

I pride myself on being interesting—if nothing else.

I would have to say that the first thing I look for in a person is temperament. I would like for him to be even-tempered and relaxed. Life is much easier if you are not spending your days with a stressed-out man.

That makes sense. Women are emotional enough.

He would have to have taste. And what I mean by that is he would have to have similar taste in , wines and as I. I like the finer things, so to speak, but I don’t want a snob. It would be nice if he were a vegetarian, too.

Ok. A mellow man with a taste for the good life. What’s last?

He must be affectionate. I like a man that is secure enough in the relationship that he can shower me with affection. I like confidence in all the right places. An affectionate man shows that he is confident and doesn’t think it’s uncool to love his woman.

Do you have a nightmare dating story?

Many years back I was with a date, and we were having  in my dining room when I used to live in Koreatown. While we were eating, a burglar broke in, and I screamed, which in turn startled the thief and he ran out! It was the strangest and scariest thing ever.

That’s really creepy!

Yeah, it obviously ruined the date. But I made him sleep over so that I would feel safe. And the truth was I didn’t want to take the relationship any further.

He must have felt like a hero for the night. And what is your dream date?

I like to cozy up by a fire with a good glass of  and a good man. But for now, I will settle for a fantastic vegetarian meal and a glass of Syrah in Montrose with my best .

Cheers!
