Sheriff's Department now on Facebook and Twitter

Now you can follow and friend your local law enforcement.

Residents in search of more police information can now follow the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department on its Facebook page and Twitter feed.

Another way to receive information from the department is through its Nixle system, which provides email and text message updates on crimes, rewards, and other information for county residents.

The pages are run by the department's central bureau and are not specific to La Crescenta and Montrose.

Over in Altadena, also patrolled by the Sheriff's Department, setting up a Facebook page was a clearly identified goal of Altadena Sheriff's Department Capt. Steve McLean. It was this year.

McLean said at that meeting that the department actually briefly started its own Facebook page, but was asked by the department command to take it down in anticipation of the establishment of the countywide department page.
