Shoe Fantasy Helps to Heal Haiti, One Sole At a Time
At Shoe Fantasy, owner Lily Lahijaniha has been collecting shoe donations by the boxload for Haiti. Her trick? $5 off your next shoe purchase.
On Honolulu Avenue, Lily Lahijaniha amasses old shoes by the boxload. Don’t worry, these old soles won’t make their way onto the shelves at Lahijaniha’s store, , but instead, they go overseas.
The store has been participating in Soles4Souls, a shoe-donation organization pledged to aid third-world countries. They are currently helping the victims of Haiti’s great earthquake last year.
Lahijaniha has been participating in the program for over a year, and has collected over 20 large shipping boxes in the last 4 months by offering a $5 rebate on any purchase for every pair donated. The shoes must be in good condition, says Lahijaniha, but apart from that, the charity will accept any type of footwear.
