Solar Eclipse Seen Over Los Angeles County

Angelenos won't see such a spectacular celestial event for the next 59 years.

A rare solar eclipse occurred Sunday—with the moon blocking out the sun completely except for ring of fire—and the next such phenomenon won't be seen until 2071.

Eagle Rock photojournalist Henk Friezer photographed the occurrence from the porch of his home without the aid of filters or other enhancing photographing aids. He recorded the celestial event in its natural state from about 6:25 p.m. to 6:55 p.m. He did not witness the touted "ring of fire," though, which was evidently not visible to people in Montrose-La Crescenta.
