Sweet Summer Needs a Winter Friend

Summer, a young Chihuahua with special needs, came to the Glendale Humane Society from a family who lost their home.

Summer is an 18-month-old female Chihuahua. She is a special needs girl as she has Addison’s disease.

She was brought to us by a woman with tears running down her cheeks--so grief stricken she could hardly speak. It seems the woman and her two children had lost their home, and friends allowed them to come live in their one bedroom apartment with them. The one hitch was the landlord said “no dogs."

In the meantime, while she was looking for a home for Summer, Summer became very ill. The family rushed her to a vet and spent the last of their savings to get her treated. The vet diagnosed Addison’s disease. (We have had the diagnosis confirmed, and our vet said she will be fine but must have her meds daily.) Finding a new home for her became increasingly difficult. The 13-year-old daughter found GHS on the Internet and asked her mommy to please take Summer to us because she believed we would help their sweet and much-loved pup find a new home.

One of our employees took Summer home and nursed her back to health. She tells us Summer is a great companion.

She is house-trained, walks nicely on a leash, sleeps in a crate and enjoys all people and other canine companions. Summer is easy to care for and deserves another chance with a loving and committed household. And she is cute to boot.
