Whiz Kid: Teen Seeks Good Grades

Every now and then, I feel the need to mix it up a bit and when it comes to my column and it’s never out of the question to track down one of Montrose’s exceptional  to find out what they are up to these days. Laura was more than an adorable teen version of , she was a shining example of what our local youth think and feel these days. Turns out, teenagers want exactly what we did… to be independent. But with her parents owning one the most notable eateries in town, this whiz kid had the world at her fingertips... and a career goal to match.

I’m a junior.

Yeah. 

Are you doing right now?

Yes, I’m doing geometry. I don’t think I have ever really liked math, though.

What do you do for fun?

I like to go to parties. Calm parties, a lot of lounging around. 

When do you graduate?

Next year.

Do you look forward to it?

I guess I don’t want to leave high school, but I ‘m excited about a new step in life! 

Will you go to college?

Yes. 

Do you know where yet?

Hopefully I will get into a University and not end up going to a community college.

That is a great goal. Are your grades good? 

The report card just came and I got straight A’s!

That’s pretty remarkable! I was a terrible student. High school really dishes out a lot of homework. Do you know what kind of career you might want when you're older? 

I really want to do something in the field. I would like to be a Pediatrician.

That’s noble. It sounds like you won’t have a problem. As far as leisurely activities, do you watch much reality TV?

I like the Kardashians!

Did you watch the big wedding with Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphreys yet?

It’s on tonight actually!

Hopefully.

Yes, I’m Persian Armenian. Both my parents are.

Glendale.

Drake.

Who is that?

He’s a rapper. 

Oh. Does he have a famous song?

Up all Night and Club Paradise are on the radio a lot. It’s slow stuff. He is kind of a depressed singer.

I may have to check that out. Is this Drake guy cute?

No! Not at all (laughs). 

Do you have a celeb that you like to watch?

I like Channing Tatum and Johnny Depp. 

I am always surprised that Johnny Depp is so generational. I wonder when he will ever not be the cool actor. What do your parents do around here?

They own a restaurant in Montrose.

Oh! Which one? 

on Honolulu Avenue. It’s Italian and Mediterranean. 

I have heard that is a great place. Now I must check it out!

No. I go there with my friends and eat.

I think over four and a half years now.

Is business good?

Yes, very good.

Your restaurant survived the recession. That's a great indicator of success! Good luck with your studies. I think you will make a great doctor one day.
