UCLA Grad Seeks Masters

After watching the most recent episode of The Walking Dead, I went to snatch a decaf due to my recent attempt at giving up the last of my vices. Outside of a closed , I spotted Lucy, quiet as a mouse and clearly taking rightful advantage of ’s solitude. She reminded me of someone I used to know… but I just couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

What brings you here?

I usually come here on the weekdays, but was really crowded and I don’t like a lot of noise, so I came here to study. 

Do you always come to Montrose to study?

Glendale is really crowded and the distance from my place to a coffee shop is the same. I come here to avoid the traffic. 

Any other places you like here?

Sometime I go to the . They have really good sushi.

What is it that you are studying?

The Graduate Record Examination.

The who?

I just graduated this spring from UCLA.

My husband went there… I think he graduated in 1989, though. Did you like it?

I really liked it.

That must mean you are really smart.

I worked hard.

What was your major?

Architecture.

Does that mean you want to be an architect?

I would like to be an urban designer. So I am going to kind of switch fields and go into urban planning.

What is the difference between the two fields?

is more individual buildings and design and urban planning is more on a macro scale like cityscape design. It’s like and policy as opposed to architecture. I didn’t realize there was a field until l looked into it.

Are you applying for your Masters in the area?

No! I am applying to UCLA, Berkley, MIT, University of Washington, I don’t know. Each application is different. I am working on a portfolio to show my design. I have to show internship experience.

Have you interned?

I did over the summer at a research center at UCLA.

Do you live in Montrose?

I used to live in La Crescenta on Montrose Avenue. Now I live near .

Yes.

Do you date much?

Not right now because I’m really busy.

Do you ever want to get married?

Some day. 

What are the top three qualities you look for in a guy?

Devotion. Intelligence. Probably .

It would be hard to find someone as intelligent as you though.

I think it’s quite possible to be smarter than me!

Yeah. I really liked it. I didn’t have any problems. I played water polo and .

Do you still hang out with friends from high school?

Yeah, my closest ones. Most, no.

Yeah, it’s best until I am done with the application process.

Armenian.

Who is your celebrity crush? 

Never really thought about it too much. I guess Justin Timberlake.

I’ve heard about it. But realistically Hugh Jackman.

Who knows he might eventually get . What do you do for fun?

I surf in Malibu!

Wow! Aren’t you afraid of sharks?

I just don’t think there are sharks in there. I just go.

Is that where the girl gets her arm ripped off by a shark?

Yeah. I think it happened in Malibu.
