Poll: Who is Montrose's 2011 Person of the Year?

You have until Jan. 1 to vote for a person who best serves Montrose-La Crescenta and makes life a little sweeter for our community.

We asked and boy, did you answer.

Readers told Patch their nominees, including people in law enforcement, insurance, Crescenta Valley Town Council members and volunteers.

Here are the nominees and why locals support their hard work. Vote by Jan. 1 for the person you think makes our community stronger, happier and a better place to live.

Steve Goldsworthy:

"He was on the CV Town Council, he can be seen at EVERY community gathering, has been instrumental in Prom Plus, volunteers hundreds of hours as a sheriff volunteer at CV station, AND he was recently accepted as a team member for the Montrose Search and Rescue Team," Sheriff's Reserve Chief Mike Leum told Patch.

"Even though he is a new team member he has greatly assisted us in finding lost persons by tracking down their cell phone gps information," Leum said. 

"[He] is at every event donating money, time and supplies to make it better," Julia Rabago, Program Director of the Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition and Executive Director of .

"[He is a] huge part of , huge part in ," Rabago said.

"Mike Leum - he's our Montrose Search and Rescue hero who has saved many and is always willing to give of his time to lend a helping hand!" . 

Luther Nash

"Retiring State Farm agent Luther Nash, known as 'The Duke of Montrose' to those familiar with him, has been serving the area for 32 years," Patch reader Deborah Vossmeyer said. 

"Without a doubt it should be Steve Pierce," Patch reader Joe Kroening said. "He is either in charge or is working at every event in Montrose-La Crescenta. His positive attitude is an inspiration that makes more people get involved. I have yet to see him turn any request down. He has time for everyone and everything. Steve Pierce is the person of the year!"

"I have never seen a volunteer like him," Mary Dawson, Vice President of the Montrose Shopping Park Association and co-owner of Revelation TOPS.

"[He's] so community minded and not at all self promoting," Dawson said. "He has selflessly headed up the Montrose Christmas Parade for years [with] hours and hours of planning. [He] created the Montrose Film Festival, and now serves as our Ambassador for the Montrose Shopping Park, plus much, much more."

Officer Matt Zakarian:

"He's a community police officer who donates his time and money to many things, including the CVDAPC," Julia Rabago said. 

"My vote goes to Officer Zakarian," Patch reader  said.
