Did you hear the one about the kid with Special Needs....

Life in the land of Special Needs is very different than most places.. You kinda have to live there to truly understand. Come take a short trip there.

Ok...we all have our crosses to bear and parents of kids with spec.needs tend to have a collection of them. But I never realized just how exasperating mornings could ever be. Not really!

Tomorrow is Monday and we all hate Mondays.. agreed? But this is my Monday with a child with spec needs:

  1. Getting out of bed...battle no#1. After the alarm has snoozed about a catrillion times...she's finally staggering to the bathroom. Getting dressed..
  2. Battle no#2...at 11 she doesn't like what I pick out and lay out the night before, even though we chose it in agreement. Finally dressed there's
  3. Battle no#3...teeth brushing. There are mornings where this battle doesn't exist but very few.
  4.  So now comes battle no#4...fixing her hair. If you ever had a tender headed kid ( that's when every movement of a brush on hair strands causes yelps and screams) you know this can be like the CivilWar with no survivors!

Hair now done its put on shoes time...no battle here..yes! On to last battle of my early am...

Battle no#5...getting out of the door to get the bus. This is where my beautiful sweet angel turns into Damian or the Exorcist girl....refusing to budge.. she sits down and finally gets up but grabs a death grip on the front door like holding unto the last raft from the Titanic.

Whew! Out the door we now have bare minutes to get to the bus which usually comes a few minutes ahead of its schedule. A snide comment from the dear bus driver that has NoClue what we have been through since 630am....and she's off!

I wave enthusiastically as the bus departs...take a deep breath and get myself ready for work, wishing my strong coffee had a shot or two of whiskey in it. So...can anyone relate? I knew you could! Here's to Mondays knowing they're followed by Tues...Wed.....and so on!
